MA – Medical Assistant – Corrections

Ro Health is looking for a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) to join our healthcare team at a California State Prison!

This position plays a vital role in providing essential healthcare support to incarcerated individuals, ensuring a safe, hygienic, and therapeutic environment within the facility.

Details:

• Location: Tehachapi, CA
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts, AM
• Higher Pay for Travelers: Additional compensation for those commuting 50+ miles from the facility
• Employment Type: Contract

Qualifications:

• Active Medical Assistant certification from one of the following boards:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • California Certifying Board of Medical Assistants (CCBMA)
  • Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute, Inc. (MMCI)
  • National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
• At least 1 year of MA experience
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association
• Ability to pass a strict background check
• Strong patient care and communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist healthcare providers with patient assessments and minor medical procedures
• Perform routine clinical tasks, including taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and preparing patients for exams
• Administer medications and injections under supervision (as permitted by law)
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for analysis
• Maintain medical records and input data into electronic health systems
• Support infection control protocols and ensure medical supplies are stocked and organized
• Provide patient education on prescribed treatments and health maintenance
• Ensure compliance with facility policies, HIPAA regulations, and facility safety standards
